Ooh. I was so close, kittens. I could almost taste that victory.

December’s effort was valiant (my personal best month of 2017), but it wasn’t quite enough to make that 12,000 yards knit for the year goal I made. I am really pleased with how this effort went, and I’m hoping to complete the same challenge in 2018. No reason to beat myself up: no one can predict when a knitting slump will strike. On to better things, yes? ^_^

Did you make any goals for 2017? Did you achieve them, or, like me, did you hit some bumps?

November didn’t go as planned, crafting-wise, so my average will continue to drop. I am not going to stress about it. Onto better things for December!

On the one hand, my yardage worked in October was still pretty low as my dampened knitting mojo continued. (And there was one other project I worked on in October, but I didn’t think to weigh out my handspun in grams so I could get an accurate way to measure partial usage. So I’m letting November have that bit.)  It’s definitely better than it has been since summer started. I do miss those numbers from the first 4 months of the year when my needles were flying at a steady pace.

But on the other, I was able to find the drive to knit some Lamby samples that have started my knitting drive smoking again: the desire is still in there. It apparently needs to be coaxed out, so I will continue to be patient with it. I’m hoping some delightful handspun will convince it to re-enter the world and stay for a while.

I am about 670 yards behind where I ideally wanted to be at this point in the year, but it’s not so bad that I’m fretting about the shortage. Really, when spread out over the 10 months of 2017 so far, I’m fewer than 100 yards short of my monthly goals on average; I would argue that’s pretty darn good. We will see what November and December bring! (I’m hoping for a mad burst of energy to bang out a sweater in under a month. I dream big.)

How was your October, kitten? Have you been in a slump? Or are you still crafting away?

So.

To say September didn’t go as-planned would be one of the bigger understatements I’ve made lately, so we’ll just say that, I suppose? After the last yardage tally, I was feeling fairly optimistic that September would be full of knitting–I had a sweater to knit for Rhinebeck, after all!

BUT.

Life has a funny way of liking to change your plans, and almost immediately after my last posting… my knitting mojo abandoned me. POOF! Off it went into the aether, and it has yet to return. I wasn’t too concerned at first; it’s not unusual for my desire to knit to wane or fully disappear for a few days or sometimes up to a week and a half, but this time has been a bit different. It’s been a full month, and I’m still not really *feeling* knitting. The only yardage I racked up in September was thanks to finishing square #3 on my super-scrappy 10-Stitch Blanket and starting square #4. That’s it. No other knitting has been done. No socks. No sweaters. No quick little projects. I have tons of plans but no follow-through at the moment.

It’s bumming me out, but I know it will eventually come back, and I will be obsessively knitting again like nothing happened. So until then, I will work on other crafts. What have you been working on in the last month? Have you been getting lots of crafty projects accomplished? Have you switched into gift knitting mode with the winter holidays fast approaching?

Here’s to a more productive October!

August 2017: Wrap-Up

Yardage Totals 2017:

 January: 1,065yds
February: 1,075yds
March: 1,659yds
April: 1,453yds
May: 1,595yds
June: 379yds
July: 313yds
August: 646yds
September:
October:
November:
December:
2017 Totals: 8,185yds or 4.65 miles

So. Bad News is that August was another low yardage month. I did not come close to my monthly goal of knitting 1,000 yards for every month of 2017.

The Good News is that I knit almost twice as much yardage in August as I did in July. So even if it didn’t meet my goal, it was better than I’ve done the rest of the summer. It means I’ve been making more time to knit which is always a good thing! Even with another low yardage output month, I am still riding on the edge of meeting my goal for the year: I am still averaging 1,000 yards knit per month. So let’s hope September is more kind!

Summer is almost gone here in the North Country. Is it cooling down where you are? (Or warming up for those of you in the Southern hemisphere?) Have you been knitting much, or did you switch to other crafts during the summer?

July 2017: Wrap-Up

Yardage Totals 2017:

 January: 1,065yds
February: 1,075yds

2017 Totals: 7,539yds or 4.28 miles

It was another low output month, but I was expecting that given that July is Tour de Fleece time. So I accomplished quite a bit of spinning but not so much knitting outside of two shorter knit dates with a local friend. I did omit a small amount of yardage for this month, but I would rather just tack it into August’s tally instead. It keeps things clean and neat. Those ~30 yards weren’t going to make much of a difference anyway.  Despite this set back, I am still on track to average knitting 1,000 yards of yarn a month; I still have a healthy buffer!

Soon, the weather will cool here, and I will be more inspired to knit larger projects. Not much else to say this month, since I worked on so little. I hope you all have had a lovely summer so far! (But I will admit: I am longing for fall and winter again.)

Oh…kittens. I knew this would happen sooner or later, but I was really hoping it would wait until August when the weather is dreadful and even thinking about touching wool makes me feel itchy. But it did: June is the first month I came no where near my goal of knitting 1,000 yards of yarn. My projects were super time intensive with little yardage to show for it (toys), and I had too much else to do which greatly reduced my knitting time. It happens. I also shorted myself a touch of yardage worked on my blanket that will be tacked onto July’s for ease of calculations.

Kitschy Kat by Susan Claudino

Example of things I focused on this month: this adorable wee kitty took about two full day’s worth of knitting time but yielded barely over 40 yards knit. It’s a lot of effort with not much to show for it.

July will be another lower-yield month with Tour de Fleece going strong. I tend to focus more on spinning than knitting at this time. I am hopeful to finish up some projects that need to get worked on: I want to finish my current blanket square, knit a second linen placemat, and finally tackle learning brioche stitch to move forward on my Briochealuscious Shawl. These three things should be enough to get me close to the 1,000 yard mark.

Overall, I am still ahead of my goal: with only 6 months of the year gone, I’m at over 7,000 yards. This means I’m still averaging well over the 1,000 yards a month I wanted. So all-in-all, I’m pretty pleased.

What about you? Are you still tracking crafting goals for the year? Do you keep up with knitting during the summer months, or do you switch to another craft? Or perhaps you indulge more in another leisure activity like reading while keeping cool?  I would love to hear about it in the comments!
